Very wide frames can be used to frame particularly large format artworks – this will maintain proportions, or conversely, a very small piece – it will look playful and original.
Very wide frames are recommended for framing large mirrors (as they are sturdier and can hold the weight of a heavy mirror) or for framing large format paintings. A wide frame looks solid and luxurious. The price of a wide frame is usually higher than that of a narrow one, but if you want a cheaper option, you can choose a plastic wide frame. Also, if you are framing a small object, even framing it in a luxurious, wide frame, you won't feel a significant price difference, and a small picture in a wide frame will look elegant.
